OCHA: Israeli occupation demolished 44 Palestinian buildings in two weeks

06 August, 19

Israeli occupation forces demolished 44 Palestinian-owned building in the occupied West Bank over the past two weeks, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said.

In its Protection of Civilians report covering the period between 16-29 June, OCHA explained that the Israeli home demolitions have left 38 Palestinian civilians homeless and more than 6,000 others negatively affected.

OCHA added that 34 of the destroyed buildings were demolished under the pretext of a lack of the impossible-to-obtain building permits.

Of the buildings destroyed by Israeli occupation forces, 32 are in Area C of the occupied West Bank and two are east of occupied Jerusalem, OCHA continued.

OCHA noted that 14 of the demolished structures in Area C of the occupied West Bank were funded by donors, including four water cisterns that affected the Umm al Kheir and Khashem and Daraj communities, south of Hebron.

The report highlighted that up to 4,000 residents of the Asira Shamaliya village in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus were harmed after Israeli occupation forces razed sections of four donated roads leading to agricultural lands, noting that the residents managed to report the roads the following day.

These demolitions have resulted in the displacement of four Palestinian families including 24 people, 13 of them are children, according to OCHA.

The Israeli home demolitions were carried out after a ruling by the Israeli Supreme Court, based on a military order prohibiting Palestinian construction near the Israeli Apartheid Wall.

“Israel’s policy of destroying Palestinian property is not compatible with its obligations under international humanitarian law,” the United Nations said in a statement issued in response to Israeli home demolitions.
