Commenting on the Israeli violations and attacks against Palestinians in al-Aqsa, Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh stated the following:
Hamas movement follows up the Israeli violations at al-Aqsa where the Israeli forces have been suppressing Palestinian worshippers. In addition, the Israeli settlers call for breaking into al-Aqsa, especially in Eid al-Adha, the Muslims’ second holiday celebrated worldwide.
Indeed, the Israeli crimes against Palestinians are flagrant violations against all Muslims, as they hurt the feelings of Muslims worldwide during these holy days.
We hail the Palestinians who defended al-Aqsa on the day of Eid. Furthermore, Hamas warns against dividing al-Aqsa spatially and temporally and against any move that may lead to changing the Islamic identity of al-Aqsa.
We think that the situation in Jerusalem highlights the religious dimension of the conflict and reveals the attempts of the Israeli occupation to promote baseless zionist myths.
Therefore, we call for going back to the original relationship with the Israeli occupation and for abandoning the illusions of the settlement process and security collaboration. It is necessary to withdraw the recognition of the Israeli occupation, halt all forms of normalisation with the Israeli occupation, and revive resistance.
We think that protecting al-Aqsa, along with the Islamic and Christian holy places, should be under unity among the Palestinian people and through reactivating all forms of resistance.
We call on the Arab and Islamic Ummah to fulfill their responsibilities towards the occupied Jerusalem and al-Aqsa mosque. They should support the steadfastness of the Palestinians in Jerusalem in order to tackle the most dangerous plot against the Muslims’ first Qibla and their third holiest mosques.
