The Israeli occupation had since last October detained 28 Palestinian women over social media activitiy, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Center for Studies (PPCS) said in a statement.

Riyad al-Ashqar, PPCS spokesman, said that the women were detained for “incitement over Facebook” and interrogated for hours or days.

He noted that among the 28 cases, 8 women were sentenced to administrative detention over alleged charges of social media incitement, while 6 are still held in Israeli prisons including the Jerusalemite journalist Samah Dweik.

Israeli arrests surged after the Jerusalem intifada, where Israeli forces have since last October arrested around 5700 Palestinians.
