Chief of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh said on Monday that “the Great March of Return has started and will not stop before we return to our homes.
After inaugurating a mural for three reminiscent global symbols of freedom in the tent encampment in the east of Gaza City, Haniyeh said: “The Palestinians are currently involved in a multifront battle for the sake of independence, ending apartheid and racism, as well as ending the occupation.”
Haniyeh removed the curtain from the mural for Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. This event was organised in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Luther King’s assassination.
“On this day 50 years ago, one of the greatest men who fought for humanity was buried,” he said. “There is no difference between men because of skin colour or morality.”
He added: “We are talking about Martin Luther King, who was assassinated at the hand of hatred and racism on April 4, 1968 and was buried on April 9.” Martin Luther King’s goal “is consistent with our culture and principles.”
The Hamas leader said: “Today, are peacefully seeking to regain our fundamental rights, the foremost of which is to live in our land in peace, to return to our homes and to have freedom of movement and travel and to have clean water and healthy food.
“Therefore, we call for the world, particularly the United Nations and the free people everywhere, to stand with us and support our cause, help us lift the oppressive siege and gain the right of education and healthcare.
“Here we remember the eternal words of Martin Luther King: ‘I have a dream. We shall overcome’ and I say: We have a dream and we shall overcome.”
Haniyeh denounced the “absurd” negotiations and security cooperation, which did not achieve anything for the Palestinians or regain any of the Palestinian rights.
The Hamas leader also criticised the American Administration, which two times vetoed UNSC resolutions that condemn the Israeli occupation aggression on Gaza.
About the siege on Gaza, he said that there are certain sides imposing more punitive measures against Gaza, but “Gaza will not surrender.
“Those who disowned Gaza, we say to them, Gaza will not disown the West Bank, Jerusalem and the occupied Palestine. We have our fatal weapon which is our population.”
