Political arrests escalated in West Bank during Ramadan, Hamas MP says

09 May, 19

Hamas member of the Legislative Council Naif al-Rjoub said that he was shocked by the rapid increase of political arrests by the Palestinian Authority security forces targeting Palestinian civilians since the start of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

“After the aggression on Gaza and the arrival of Ramadan, the security forces should have released all prisoners it holds, instead of increasing the Palestinians’ suffering by detaining their sons,” al-Rjoub said in a press release.

Al-Rjoub stressed the policy of raiding homes, intimidating civilians and children, and arresting ex-detainees and college students is “exogenous to the culture of the Palestinian people.”

The Hamas MP called on the PA to stop its political arrests targeting national figures and activists and its dawn raid on civilian houses in the occupied West Bank.

Al-Rjoub urged the human rights groups to take action to pressure the PA to stop political arrests, torture, and forced disappearance used by the PA in the occupied West Bank.
