Press release on cuts in funding for fuel supply to Gaza

02 September, 19

Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh followed up the news stories published by media outlets about cuts in Qatari fuel supply to Gaza. Head of Hamas Arab and Islamic Relations Office Izzat al-Rishq contacted Qatar’s envoy to Gaza Mohammed al-Emadi who stressed that the Qatar position has never changed. He highlighted that he had not made any statement in this regard.

Furthermore, the Qatari envoy said that he had informed the Israeli occupation of reducing funding for fuel shipments, but this move was in protest at the Israeli decision to cut down fuel supply to Gaza by half over the few past days. He mentioned that Qatar is committed to funding the only electricity plant in Gaza in order to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s people.

Hamas understands Qatar’s protest against the Israeli occupation’s move as it reduced fuel supply to Gaza unilaterally. Moreover, the movement urges Qatar to supply full quantity of fuel to Gaza.

The Qatari ambassador responded to our appeal and pointed out that he had confirmed to the Israeli occupation not to evade any of the agreed-upon humanitarian understandings without prior coordination.

Accordingly, the Qatari ambassador said that he would supply full quantity of fuel shipments to Gaza.

Hamas reiterates its thanks and gratitude to Qatar and to Emir of Qatar, his highness, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for their unwavering position and continued support for Palestinian people.
