Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif al-Qanoa deplored Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ pledge to help find an Israeli settler held by the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.

Al-Qanoa’s comments came following a meeting between Abbas and father of Avraham Mengistu in the West Bank city of Ramallah, in which the PA President vowed to find information on Mengistu’s whereabouts.

“The PA President’s sympathy with the family of captive Mengistu and his promise to them to know his whereabouts, while the Israeli occupation denies Palestinian detainees of their basic rights, is a proof that the issue of [Palestinian] detainees and their suffering are ignored by the Palestinian Authority,” al-Qanoa said in a tweet.
