Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh thanked Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad for his supportive speech in front of the world’s leaders at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.
In a letter sent to Mohamad, Haniyeh wrote: “We, in Hamas, along with the Palestinian people at home and in the diaspora followed with great interest and appreciation your speech in front of the world’s leaders.”
Haniyeh pointed out that Mohammed’s words at the UNGA “obviously highlighted Malaysia’s support for the Palestinian people and their just cause and condemned all Israeli violations to take over Palestinian territories and ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people and their rights and holy sites.”
The Hamas chief expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Malaysia PM for his “honourable” position, which exposes the “criminal” Israeli policy against the Palestinian people and lands for more than 70 years and disclose stances of the countries that remained silent on plans targeting the Palestinian constants and rights.
Haniyeh renewed his thanks to Malaysian king, government, and people and for their honourable stances in solidarity with Palestine.
The top Hamas official explained that Hamas hopes that Malaysia takes similar positions until the Palestinian people restore their rights and freedom and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
