We showed ‘flexibility’ towards internal Palestinian issues, says Hamas spokesperson

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qasem said Thursday that the movement has positively handled and showed ‘flexibility’ towards internal Palestinian issues to reach a consensus on national matters.

In a press release, Qasem stressed that Hamas had waived its right to manage Gaza’s government in 2014 even though it gained a majority in the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Qasem added that Hamas responded positively to calls for elections, noting that his movement had dissolved Gaza’s administrative committee and handed control of border crossings from the besieged territory to Egypt and Israeli occupation to the Palestinian Authority in 2017.

“Hamas will always be with the national consensus and at the heart of it,” Qasem continued, reiterating that the movement believes that national unity is the only option that is capable of facing off the challenges posed to the Palestinian cause.
