Hamas condemns PA’s cutting of prisoners’ stipends as ‘collective punishment’

25 November, 19

Cutting stipends paid to Palestinian detainees violates all laws followed by the Palestinian Authority, which guarantees the rights of prisoners released from Israeli prisons, Khalid Tafesh, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, said Monday.

In a press release, Tafesh denounced the PA’s move as a “policy of collective punishment that doesn’t serve the Palestinian national interest.”

The Hamas MP called on the PA to “heed the voice of freed prisoners” who had staged a sit-in at Arafat Square in the West Bank city of Ramallah to protest the PA’s decision to cut their stipends.

Tafesh urged the PA to reverse its decision on prisoner stipends to enhance the steadfastness of Palestinians against the Israeli and US plans targeting the occupied West Bank.
