26 November, 19

Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh expressed his solidarity with freed Palestinian detainees who are staging a sit-in demanding repayment of their stipends.

In a phone call on Tuesday evening, Haniyeh stressed that he had contacted a number of Arab officials to brief them on “the dangerous development” and the suppression of the sit-in by the PA security forces and urged them to intervene to put an end to such act and stand up for rights of Palestinian detainees.

During its meeting with Hanna Nasser, head of the Central Elections Commission, the Hamas leadership voiced its rejection to the PA’s attack on the sit-in held by freed prisoners in central Ramallah, Haniyeh continued.

In response, Haniyeh added, Hamas has decided to postpone the delivery of its response about Palestinian elections to the election commission, calling for providing the atmosphere needed to ensure the success of the election process.

The Hamas chief explained that he had received a positive response from the head of the Central Elections Commission to follow up the measures taken against the protesting ex-detainees.

Haniyeh assured the freed prisoners that the Hamas leadership was following up the developments related to this matter with the election committee to end all forms of suppression against them.
