Press release by Hamas chief on Israeli jail sentence to Raed Salah

10 February, 20

We have received in anger the news of a 28-month prison sentence handed by an Israeli court to Sheikh Raed Salah, which comes as part of a continuous series of arrests and orders banning Salah from accessing al-Aqsa Mosque.

The forced disappearance of Sheikh Salah followed by this unfair ruling is part of a bid to prepare the ground for implementing the “deal of the century” in Jerusalem and the Triangle area and silence all voices stressing the Arab and Islamic identity of al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem and rejecting Israeli crimes and ongoing judaisation plans.

As we voice our solidarity with Sheikh Salah and his family along with all Palestinian residents of the 1948 occupied territories, we deplore and disapprove this unfair ruling, which highlights how grave the plot.

We call for mass solidarity with Sheikh Salah and the al-Aqsa Mosque and for rejecting all crimes and steps taken against the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights.

We stress that this decision will encourage the Palestinian people to go on with their fight with all means possible to foil the Israeli plan.
