Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh sent an urgent appeal to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz to order the release of Palestinians held in Saudi prisons.
“In light of the coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping throughout the world, and out of fear for the lives of our honourable brothers, releasing the Palestinians becomes a humanitarian and national necessity, given that all humanitarian and religious considerations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in dealing with the Palestinian cause and the Palestinians who have long lived on Saudi territories fulfilling all of their Arab and Islamic duties and commitments to the brotherly Saudi people,” Haniyeh said in the letter on Sunday.
“We are confident that His Majesty will not hesitate to do so,” Haniyeh continued.
“In the night of Israa and Mi’raj [the Night Journey of Prophet Muhammad] in which Allah the Almighty strengthened the sacred bond between the land of the Two Holy Mosques and the land of Palestine, we call upon the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to take a long-awaited decision to release our people from prisons. Such places were not made for men who have served their legitimate cause and their people in line with the main role of the Kingdom and its welcoming people,” Haniyeh concluded.
