Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh has made a series of calls to a number of leaders of Palestinian factions, as part of his ongoing consultations to discuss efforts to face off the challenges resulting from the coronavirus outbreak.
Haniyeh has phoned the secretary general of Islamic Jihad Ziad al-Nakkala, the secretary general of the Palestine National Initiative Mustafa al-Barghouthi, the deputy secretary-general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Abu Ahmad Fouad, the deputy secretary-general of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine Fahed Souliman, the deputy secretary-general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command Talah Naji.
The head of Hamas politburo discussed with the Palestinian officials several key topics, especially the living conditions of the Palestinian people everywhere amid COVID-19 pandemic.
The Hamas chief briefed the Palestinian leaders on the phone calls with several presidents and leaders in the region and United Nations officials.
Highlighting the efforts exerted to fight the coronavirus and steps and measures taken to prevent the spread of the novel virus, Haniyeh reiterated the necessity to stand resilient and have faith in the ability to face off challenges despite of the lack of equipment and supplies and current harsh circumstances, stressing that handling situations well and seeking the best ways to enhance a joint national action, coupled with a sense of responsibility, will increase the capability to overcome the challenges.
During these calls, views on the best steps to be made in this stage have been exchange and priorities have been listed as follows:
First: Continuing the efforts to protect the Palestinian people.
Second: Providing relief for the Palestinian people.
Third: Unifying the efforts exerted in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and abroad to face off the COVID-19 pandemic.
The top Hamas official also addressed the situation of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, reaffirming the necessity to follow up on their issue and spare no effort at all levels to save their lives and release them.
