Israeli occupation forces have killed 84 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip over the past two years, Al Mezan Centre For Human Rights found.
In a report on Monday, the Gaza-based group stressed that not only do Palestinian children “pay the price of Israeli violations”, but they also are the most affected by Israeli rights abuses either by losing a breadwinner or having their residence destroyed, coupled with the negative implications of the crippling Israeli siege on their rights.
The ongoing impunity has encouraged the Israeli occupation army to escalate its violations against the Palestinian children, the NGO organisation explained.
Since March 2018, the Israeli occupation has gunned down 48 Palestinian children, 46 per cent of them succumbed to their injuries after being shot in the upper part of their bodies and 83 per cent of them were struck with live fire directly, the rights group continued.
The advocacy group called on the international community to intervene immediately to put an end to Israeli abuses of Palestinian children’s rights and pressure the Israeli occupation to respect international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, and international human rights law, especially the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Highlighting the possible consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak in the densely-populated Gaza Strip, the human rights group reiterated the necessity for a serious action to end the 13-year Israeli siege on Gaza, which has put economic and health sectors in the impoverished territory at the brink of collapse.
