Report: 28 Israeli violations against Palestinian fishermen in April

16 May, 20

Israeli occupation navy forces have carried out 28 attacks against Palestinian fishermen within the permitted fishing zone off the coast of the blockaded Gaza Strip during April, ‎Hemaya Center For Human Rights‎ reported.

In its report on Israeli violations against Gaza’s Palestinian residents, the advocacy group explained that such assaults had left one fisherman injured, noting that the last month witnessed an unprecedented surge of violations amid the coronavirus pandemic threatening the international community.

In April, Israeli occupation forces opened fire at Palestinian homes and lands along the separation fence in eastern Gaza 68 times, causing severe damage to some properties and farmlands and panic among the Palestinias, the NGO pointed out, adding that Israeli military bulldozers and vehicles have infiltrated into the Gaza Strip nine times over the past month.

Calling on the United Nations to push the Israeli occupation to assume its responsibility towards the residents of the occupied Palestinian territories, the Gaza-based rights group demonstrated that the Israeli occupation closed the Karam Abu Salem crossing, the Gaza's only commercial crossing, 14 days throughout the last month.

The Palestinian organisation condemned the ongoing Israeli assaults and violations in the Gaza Strip, especially amid a humanitarian crisis threatening the lives of two million people living in harsh conditions as a result of the 14-year Israeli siege on the impoverished territory.

This requires the international community to take on its responsibility towards such serious violations committed by Israeli occupation forces by targeting Palestinians, imposing restrictions on their movement, and banning the entry of medical supplies into the Gaza Strip, the human rights organisation stressed.

The non-profit rights group urged all signatories to the Fourth Geneva Convention to take a stand and assume their responsibility towards violations of international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention, calling on the United Nations to immediately intervene to put an end to the crippling Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip.
