On the Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque, Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh stated the following:
We follow up the Israeli measures in Jerusalem and at Al-Aqsa Mosque that are aimed to control and judaize the city after dividing it temporally and spatially. The last Israeli move was arresting Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, after he had urged the Palestinian people to defend Al-Aqsa Mosque against Israeli attacks. The occupation also barred him from entering the holy compound. In light of these Israeli measures, we would like to state the following:
- We condemn the Israeli occupation’s decision to ban Sheikh Ekrima Sabri from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque and depriving the Palestinian people of their right to access the holy compound as a new violation of the right to worship.
- Hamas warns the Israeli occupation against imposing vicious schemes in Al-Aqsa, taking advantage of the general emergency situation linked to the coronavirus pandemic. We stress that the Israeli plans will not pass.
- We hail the Palestinian defenders of Al-Aqsa who have never abandoned the religious and national duty towards the sacred place. Hamas calls on the Palestinian people to defend Al-Aqsa with all means possible against attacks by Israeli settlers and extremists. We won’t keep silent observing the Israeli attempts to impose a new reality in the city.
- Hamas urges Kind Abdulla II and Arab and Islamic leaders to assume their responsibility towards Al-Aqsa. They have to take necessary actions at different levels to defend and provide protection for the mosque.
