Hamas calls for ‘urgent’ action against West Bank annexation

10 June, 20

Chief of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh has called on Arab and Muslim leaders, along with the free people of the world, to act immediately to face off the racist annexations planned by the Israeli occupation government in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Jordan Valley.

In a letter sent to leaders and officials of more than 40 Arab and Islamic state, Haniyeh denounced the annexation plans as a “new assault added to series of crimes and massacres by the Israeli occupation throughout its black history against the Palestinian people and other peoples in the region.”

Arab-Islamic summit

Haniyeh called for holding an Arab, Islamic meeting to support the Palestinian position against all colonial and judaisation projects in the West Bank and US-backed plans to liquidate the Palestinian cause and providing a secure political, diplomatic, economic, and media network to protect the Palestinian national project, based on the Palestinians’ right to restore their lands and rights and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

‘Unified and Serious’ position

The Hamas chief reiterated the necessity for taking a “unified and serious” standc to reject and criminalise annexation and judaisation projects, protect Islamic and Christian holy sites, support Jerusalem’s Palestinian residents, deter the Israeli occupation, and put an end to its ongoing terrorism and judaisation plans in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and the al-Aqsa Mosque.

Haniyeh urged the regional leaders to intensify their communication with other countries and international and regional organisations, at the political, diplomatic, and legal levels, to shape an international stance to re-endorse legitimate Palestinian rights, place pressure on the Israeli occupation government to end its colonial projects and confiscation of Palestinian lands, and prompt the International Criminal Court to proceed with its investigation into Israeli war crimes against the Palestinian people and prosecute Israeli occupation leaders as war criminal.

Throughout its history, the Israeli occupation has been exploiting normalisation with some Arab and Muslim regimes as a cover to enforce its colonial and judaisation projects, Haniyeh pointed out.

Haniyeh renewed his calls to disapprove and criminalise normalisation with the Israeli occupation, condemning it as an “unforgivable sin and a stab in the chest of our people and Ummah.”

The Palestinian will not stand by in the face of such aggression and will face the Israeli terrorism with all forms of resistance, Haniyeh stressed,

Holding the Israeli occupation responsible for its “provocative” plans in the West Bank and Jerusalem, Haniyeh added that the Palestinian people would remain committed to defending their lands, rights, and holy sites.

National unity

The head of Hamas Political Bureau restated his movement’s commitment to national unity as a strategic option and its readiness to attend any Palestinian meeting to agree on a national program to face off the challenges posed to the Palestinian territories and people, reaffirming the necessity of backing the Palestinian people in their fight for their lands, rights, and holy sites.
