Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh has discussed several issues related to the Palestinian cause with United Nations special envoy Nickolay Mladenov.
During a lengthy phone call, Haniyeh briefed Mladenov on challenges facing the Palestinian cause, including plots to abolish legitimate Palestinian rights, particularly Israeli annexation plans and the “deal of the century.”
Lauding Mladenov’s remarks, in which the UN envoy voiced the UN’s opposition to the annexation plan given that it breaches its resolutions, Haniyeh restated his movement’s constant rejection to this move.
The Hamas chief shed light on the Jerusalem issue and Israeli measures to judaise the holy city and displace its Palestinian residents, in addition to the violations and abuses committed against Palestinian worshippers.
Haniyeh also addressed the hardships facing the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip due to the crippling, years-long Israeli siege on the impoverished territory, as well as Palestinian endeavours to achieve national unity amid the sensitive phase that the Palestinian cause and people are going through.
Meanwhile, the top Hamas official was updated on the efforts exerted by Mladenov, as a UN envoy for the Middle East, with regard to political topics, the Israeli blockade on Gaza, and the internal Palestinian situation.
