A delegation from Hamas, headed by its representative in Lebanon Ahmad Abdel Hadi, met on Wednesday with Turkish ambassador to Lebanon Hakan Cakil in the Turkish embassy in Beirut.
During the meeting, Abdel Hadi briefed Cakil on the latest developments concerning the Palestinian cause, noting that it going through a critical stage and all Palestinians shall be united and work together to foil the plots orchestrated against it.
Slamming normalisation of ties with the Israeli occupation as a “blow to the Palestinian cause and a stab in the back of the Palestinian people,” Abdel Hadi called on Arab states to reconsider such move and not to normalise relations with the Israeli occupation.
The Hamas official updated the Turkish envoy on the outcomes of the meeting of Palestinian secretaries-general held recently in Beirut and Ramallah.
Hamas and Fatah have made progress in bringing the standpoints closer towards ending the intra-Palestinian division, Abdel Hadi pointed out, adding: “Hamas is determined to achieve national unity to face off the challenges” posed to the Palestinian cause.
Abdel Hadi stressed the significance of head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh’s visit to Lebanon and his meetings with several Palestinian and Lebanese officials.
As for Lebanon’s Palestinian refugees, Abdel Hadi urged the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to approve an urgent emergency plan to help alleviate the economic hardships facing the Palestinian refugees.
Abdel Hadi also called on the Lebanese government to grant the Palestinian refugees in the country their civil and humanitarian rights.
Meanwhile, the Turkish ambassador congratulated Hamas for its rapprochement with Fatah, restating his country’s constant positon in support of the Palestinian cause.
