Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh has continued to mobilise diplomatic support for Palestinian elections and the outcomes of Cairo talks.
In a letter to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Haniyeh expressed his appreciation to Turkey’s positions in support for the Palestinian people on various occasions.
Haniyeh briefed Erdogan on the outcomes of the Cairo talks, as Turkey provided assurances to implement the deal, along with Egypt, Qatar and Russia.
The Hamas chief reiterated his movement’s decision to go ahead with reconciliation efforts by holding general elections on three stages: the legislative, presidential and National Council elections.
Haniyeh hoped that Turkey would take part in guaranteeing that elections would be held on time as per the presidential decree and ensuring its integrity and fairness in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as well as in placing pressure on the Israeli occupation not to obstruct or intervene in the election process, particularly in occupied Jerusalem.
The head of Hamas politburo also called on Turkey to take part in monitoring the Palestinian elections and work with the international community on respecting the election results.
Haniyeh pointed out that his movement is committed to all previous agreements and would work on creating a free environment necessary to hold the elections that reflect a civilised image of the Palestinian people.
