Hamas chief meets with Mauritanian president

Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh, accompanied by a senior Hamas delegation, met on Monday afternoon with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani in Nouakchott. 

His Excellency Mr. El Ghazouan reaffirmed Mauritania’s commitment to the Palestinian cause and constants and support for the Palestinian people in all stages of their struggle, hailing the Palestinians for their steadfastness and achievements in the “Sword of Al-Quds” battle. 

Hamas chief, Haniyeh, in return, expressed his appreciation to the official and popular Mauritanian position either by rejecting normalization with the Israeli occupation or playing a diplomatic role in support of the Palestinian cause, as well as staging popular protests in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Haniyeh reiterated his movement’s commitment to achieving Palestinian unity and its readiness to cooperate with any Mauritanian role in this regard. 

Meanwhile, Haniyeh reaffirmed Hamas’ commitment to the option of resistance to protect and restore the Palestinian holy sites and rights.       
The head of Hamas Political Bureau stressed that his movement is open to all regional and international parties. 

During the meeting, the Hamas delegation briefed the Mauritanian president on the humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinians due to Israeli measures and violations.
