Statement on warehouse blast in Lebanon's Palestinian refugee camp

| Statements

On the accident that took place at a warehouse in Burj Shemali camp in southern Lebanon, Hamas movement stated the following:

After examining the circumstances surrounding the accident and listening to eyewitnesses, it is revealed that the explosion was caused by a short circuit in a warehouse that includes oxygen cylinders for coronavirus patients and an amount of cleaning products, disinfectants, and preliminary material allocated to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

The flames caused damage to some properties with slight losses thankfully.

As we, in Hamas, express our sorrow on this tragic accident, we praise the state of awareness and responsibility shown by the Palestinian community in Lebanon.

Hamas also hails the residents of Burj Shemali camp for standing steadfast and resilient and handling this accident with a sense of responsibility; they have fought the Israeli occupation while remaining committed to their right to return to Palestine.

Hamas deplores the misleading media campaign and the dissemination of fake news which have accompanied the accident.
We stress that the news on the causes of the accidents and number of causalities is baseless. We also emphasize that Hamas has no connection to any statement made on the accident.

Hamas thanks all medical organisations and ambulance and civil defence crews who have scrambled to extinguish the blaze.

The movement highly appreciates the efforts exerted by the Lebanese neighbouring community for facilitating efforts to put this accident under control.
